Dragons Take Two Wins at Perfect Game - 3/7 Post 1 of 3

The Jefferson Dragons hit the road on Saturday for Bartow County as they competed in the Inaguaral 2015 Evoshield High School Invitation hosted by Perfect Game at the new Lake Point Sports Complex.  Jefferson was set for a Double-header as they competed against the 2A Wesleyan Wolves and the 4A Upson-Lee Knights.  The Dragons took command as they took two big wins on the big Perfect Game Stage.

In game one versus Wesleyan, the Dragons battled in a game that saw the lead change 5 times.  The Dragons took the lead for good in the 5th however, following a Sac Fly by #18 Will Breese that scored #20 Taylor Wilkes.  #22 Micah Carpenter contributed big offensively as well on a 3rd inning 2 RBI Double that scores Will Breese and #9 Jake Franklin.  On the Mound for Jefferson, #7 Ethan Garner through 7 complete game inning.  He recorded 6 Ks and allowing 3 runs on 7 hits.  The Dragons held on to take a 4-3 win over giving the Wolves their 1st loss of the season.

In game two versus Upson-Lee, the game remained close through the first 5 innings with the Dragons holding a 2-1 lead.  An 8 run explosion in the 6th inning however, blew the game open and allowed the Dragons to cruise to a 10-1 win over the Knights.  #20 Taylor Wilkes got the call to the hill for this game and quickly took control and kept the bats of Upson-Lee quite for most of the game.  In 6 innings of work, Taylor recorded 3 Ks and allowed just 1 run and 1 hit in the 3rd.  Key defensive plays came in the top of the 6th for Jefferson including a diving catch by Wilkes on a short pop-up near the 3rd baseline as well as pick-off throw to 3rd by Catcher, #12 Zack Boobas to #19 Christian Hutch.  Offensively, the Dragons were led with a 2-for-4 3RBI performance by #9 Jake Franklin, including a Triple and Double, Zack Boobas who went 2-for-3 with a Double and 2 RBI, and Wilkes with 2 RBI going 2-for-4.  Additional run support came from #22 Micah Carpenter with an RBI Double and #8 Hunter Thompson with an RBI Single.

Jefferson now stands at 4-1 on the season as they move to open up their Region 8AAA Schedule this week versus Morgan County.
