After a successful 4-1 start to the 2015 season, the Jefferson Dragons opened up their Region 8AAA schedule. Their first series in region play was against the Morgan County Bulldogs this past week. The Dragons hosted the Bulldogs for game 1 on Monday and then traveled to Morgan County for a Double-Header to close out the series on Thursday. Jefferson stood tall this week as they swept Morgan County in 3 games.
In Game 1, on Monday night, the Dragons dominated, taking an 11-0 win in 5 innings. Pitching was the highlight of this game as #22 Micah Carpenter dominated to throw a no-hitter against the Bulldogs through 5 innings. On offense, Jefferson jumped to an early 3-0 lead and then was followed the next inning as Carpenter delivered 3-Run Homer and was immediately followed by a Solo blast by #5 Trent Sorrells, putting the Dragons up 7-0 early. This game put the Dragons up in the series and set a good pace going into Thursday's double-header.
In Game 1 of the double-header on Thursday, the Dragons picked-up right where they left off Monday as they rolled to a 10-0 win in 5 innings over the Bulldogs. #7 Ethan Garner got the nod to start this game and once again dominated. Additional key offensive support came form Ethan Garner going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Trent Sorrells going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Game 2 of the double-header didn't see quite the blow-out as the 1st two games, however the Dragons controlled the tempo and rolled to a 5-2 win over Morgan County holding off a 7th inning rally that saw bases loaded with the winning run on the base for the Bulldogs. Taylor Wilkes started on the mound for the Dragons and kept the Bulldogs quite most of the game. Wilkes recorded 5 innings of work recording 7 Ks and giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. #14 Asher Standridge came on in relief in the 6th recording 3Ks and 1 hit in 1 1/3 innings.
