JV Game 9 - Banks County (5) @ Jefferson (6)

After playing two straight nights at home, the Jefferson Dragons closed out their week playing one more game at home as they played host to the Leopards of Banks County.  Coming off two close wins, the Dragons faced another tough battle with Banks County falling behind to a 5-0 deficit early.  This set the stage for a come back, which saw the Dragons claw back to finally take the lead back after a 4 run 6th inning to take a 6-5 win over the Leopards.  #20 Justin Cole (2-for-4 Run RBI) set the stage in the 3rd inning reaching after his first of two hits on the night and then stealing home on a pass ball to give Jefferson their 1st run of the game.  Into the 5th inning, Cole drove a single to knock in #6 Kasan Rainey (1-for-2 Walk), who reached on a walk to give the Dragons their 2nd run.  Now down by 3 moving the 6th, #14 Ethan Page (2-for-3 Triple) got things rolling again with a lead-off Triple and then scored off a single by #8 Chaz Evans (1-for-1 RBI 2 Hit By Pitch).  Evans later scored on a pass ball.  #7 Clayton Jones the reached based on an error by the Banks 3rd baseman.  #13 Billy Finch came into pinch run and then scored on another pass ball.  #23 Carter Evans, reached base after being hit by a pitch and later scored the go ahead run off a RBI single by #5 Brandon Trefren (1-for-2 RBI).
On the hill, #19 Logan Garner got the start for Jefferson.  Garner got off to a shaky shaky start as Banks scored 4 in the 1st inning following a couple lead off hits and walks.  He settle back in for the 2nd and shutdown the Leopards recording 2 Ks and forcing a popup out.  Garner pitched 2 innings and recorded 3 Ks and allowed 5 runs on 2 hits.  #22 Brooks Beddow came on in relief and shutdown Banks County down the stretch, keeping them off the board.  Beddow tossed 5 innings and recorded 7 Ks, allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs to close out the game for the Dragons.
The Dragons now stand at 7-1-1 for the season.  This week, they host a double-header on Wednesday versus Jackson County at 4:30PM and then on Thursday hit the road, traveling to Elbert County for a 5:55PM start.

Dragons Dominate East Jackson For Region Series Sweep

The Jefferson Dragons baseball squad took on the East Jackson Eagles this week for their 3rd Region 8AAA series of their 2015 campaign.  The series started at East Jackson on Tuesday evening and then came home to Jefferson for an afternoon double-header on Saturday.  Jefferson took complete control of this series as they swept the Eagles, outscoring them by a whopping margin of 40-1.

On Tuesday, the Dragons kicked things off at East Jackson, taking a 16-0 win in a mercy rule shortened 5 inning match.  #22 Micah Carpenter led they offensively going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI on the night.  #20 Taylor Wilkes followed close behind going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and scoring 2 runs, and #18 Will Breese going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and scoring 1 run.  Additional RBI support came off the bats of #9 Jake Franklin, #15 Josh Cole, #8 Hunter Thompson, and #11 Jared Hulsey.  On the mound for the Dragons, Micah Carpenter got the start.  Carpenter worked 3 innings, recording 4 Ks and allowing only 1 hit.  #14 Jared Bates came on in relief to close things out.  Bates pitched 2 innings and recorded 2 Ks allowing just 1 hit as well.

Fast Forward to Saturday's double-header at home, the Dragons picked up where they left off as they took a 14-1 win in 5 inning in game 1.  Offensive power came up and down the Dragons lineup.  Will Breese lead the way offensively going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and scoring 2 runs.  Taylor Wilkes, Jake Franklin, and Jared Bates each recorded 2 RBI each.  #7 Ethan Garner started off on the hill for Jefferson.  Garner threw 4 innings, recording 5 Ks and allowing just 1 run and 1 hit.  #19 Christian Hutch closed out the game in the 5th facing 3 batters and recording 2 Ks to close out the game and secure the win.

Game 3 of the series started off differently as East Jackson pitching kept the Dragons bats quite through the first 4 innings and keeping the game to a 0-0 tie.  The Dragons broke out in the 7th however, recording 7 runs on 6 hits in the 5th inning.  Jefferson then tacked on 3 more runs in 6th to secure the mercy rule win by a 10-0 score.  Ethan Garner led the team offensively, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, including a 2 RBI Double in the 5th and 2 RBI Single in the 6th to secure the win.  On the mound, Taylor Wilkes dominated the Eagles through 6 innings of work.  Wilkes recorded 8 Ks and allowed just 3 hits and 0 runs in the win.

The Jefferson Dragons now stand a record of 12-2 and 8-1 in Region 8 AAA.  This week, they take on co-region leaders, Hart County in crucial region match-up.  The Dragons will travel to Hart County on Tuesday night and then host a double-header versus Hart on Friday.

JV Game 8 - Stephens County (1) @ Jefferson (3)

The Jefferson Dragons took the field for their 2nd game of the week on Wednesday evening as they played host to the Indians of Stephens County.  In game that was mostly dominated by pitching, the Dragons prevailed as they took a 3-1 win over the Indians.  Jefferson jumped on the board early with #20 Justin Cole scoring on a pass-ball and then #12 Terrell Wall scoring on a situational RBI ground-out by #14 Ethan Page, giving the Dragons an early 2-0 lead.  Jefferson tacked on one more run in the 5th after #5 Brandon Trefren reached on an error which resulted in an eventual run on pass-ball.  The big story of the night was pitching, however.  #15 Patrick Hickox took the hill for the Dragons and did not look back as he dominated the Indians to a complete game 7 inning performance.  Hickox recorded 2 Ks, and allowed 3 hits, with one 1 scoring on SacFly in the 4th.  Patrick kept Stephens County off-balance and forced 12 fly-outs, 2 line-outs, and 5 ground-outs to keep the Indians quiet.  The Dragons now stand at a record of 6-1-1 for the season.  Thursday night they host Banks County to round out the week.

Dinner On The Diamond Tickets Now On Sale

That time of year is upon us. Time to start selling those Dinner on the Diamond Tickets!

For all family and friends visiting our blog site, Jefferson Baseball is having our annual "Dinner on the Diamond" event on Saturday, April 18 @ 7:00PM . A great night with a steak dinner served (not cooked) by the players, live band, and silent auction, all served on our high school baseball field. Come out and join us and help support this great program. Tickets are $50 per couple.

JV Game 7 - Oconee County (3) @ Jefferson (4) - 9 Innings

After a long stint of games on the road, the Jefferson Dragons returned home for just their 2nd home game of the season as the hosted the Warriors of Oconee County on Tuesday night.  In a game that remained tight, with the Warriors having the advantage through most of the game, the Dragons prevailed, bringing the score even at 3 in the bottom of the 7th. The teams dualed for two more innings with the Dragons eventually walking off with a win the 9th after a basesloaded catchers interference call scored the winning run, giving Jefferson a 4-3 win.  #14 Ethan Page (2-for-4 RBI) got things rolling for Jefferson offensivelywith an RBI single in the 4th. Down by a score of 3-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, #12 Terrell Wall (2-for-5 RBI) and #8 Chaz Evans (2-for-4 RBI) tied the game up on and RBI Filders Choice and RBI Single after #17 Caleb Chandler reached based after being hit by a pitch and #20 Justin Cole walked to lead the inning.  Fast foward to the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs and basesloaded, #24 Carter Evans forces a catchers interference on a swing forcing Cole in to score the winning run. 

On the mound for the Dragons, #5 Brandon Trefren got the start.  Trefren threw for 4 1/3 innings, recording 4 Ks and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits.  #15 Patrick Hickox came on 1 2/3 innings in relief, recording 1 K and allowing 1 run on 4 hits.  Chaz Evans was next on the hill to close out the game in regulation, facing the minimum in the 7th to keep the Warriors quite.  In extra innings, #22 Brooks Beddow stepped-up and faced the minimum, 6 batters through 2 innings recording 2 Ks allowing 0 runs and 0 hits.  Ethan Page came up big on defense for Dragons at 2nd base recording 2 putouts and 7 assists including turning a 4-6-3 Double Play to #6 Kasan Rainey and Caleb Chandler to stop an early Oconne County threat.

The Dragons now stand at 5-1-1 on the season after 7 games, 3 of which have been in extra innings.  Next up this week they host Stephens County, Wednesday, and Banks County, Thursday and next week host a double-header on Wednesday versus Jackson County and head back on the road Thursday to take on Elbert County.

Jefferson Dragons Take Region Series Win Over Oconee Warriors - 1 of 2

The Jefferson Dragons faced their 2nd region 8AAA opponent of the season they faced off against the Oconee Warriors in a 3 game series.  The series started off at Jefferson on Tuesday where they Dragons faced strong pitching and fell to the Warriors 4-0.  Jefferson bounced back Friday, when they hit the road to play at Oconee and took two wins in a Friday night double-header by a score of 4-2 in game 1 and 7-2 in game 2.  This secured a 2 games to 1 series win for the Dragons in this crucial region series.

In Game 1, Tuesday night, the Dragons faced tough pitching and only managed two hits for the evening by  #20 Taylor Wilkes and #8 Hunter Thompson both reaching base in the 6th inning.  Otherwise the Dragons were kept quite for the evening as only 3 Dragon's reached base.  #22 Micah Carpenter took the loss on the hill as he pitched 4 innings and allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while recording 5 Ks.  #14 Asher Standridge came on in relief with 1 inning of work and allowing 2 runs off 1 hit and 1 K.  #19 Christian Hutch and #13 Jared Bates each recorded an inning each to close out the game and kept the Warriors off the board the rest of the way.  This was the Dragons 2nd loss of the season and 1st region loss.

Fast forward to Friday night's double-header and the Dragons had a completely different outcome sweeping the twin bill over the Warriors.  In game 1, #7 Ethan Garner took the start on the hill.  Garner pitched 7 complete innings to earn the win for the Dragons recording a dominating 10 Ks and allowing only 2 runs off a home run in the 4th and 5 hits for the game.  Additional defensive support came off a diving stop by shortstop #9 Jake Franklin to turn a 6-4-3 Double-Play in the 5th.  Offensively, the Dragons were helped with hits across the order with #18 Will Breese knocking in the 1st run off a RBI Double in the 1st and then scoring on a Sacrifice Fly by Micah Carpenter.  Additional runs were scored off RBI Sacrifice Flies by Jake Franklin and Christian Hutch.

Game 2 of the double header saw the Dragon take another win as they took control and rolled to a 7-2 win over the Warriors.  Taylor Wilkes got the start on hill for game 2.  Battling through a couple of tough innings to start the game, Wilkes took control and threw 5 innings and recording 4 Ks and allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.  Asher Standridge came on in relief in the 6th and kept the Warriors off the board with 1 K and 2 hits allowed.  Jake Franklin closed out the game for the Dragons in the 7th with just 1 hit allowed and 0 runs allowed.  Will Breese came up big in the 4th, turning a 4-3 Double-Play to help the Dragons efforts defensively.  Offensively, Wilkes helped his cause out by going 2-for-4 and scoring 3 runs.  Franklin, Carpenter, and Garner each contributed offensively with 2 RBI each for the game.

The Jefferson Dragons now stand with a 9-2 record and are 5-1 in Region 8AAA play.  This week they face their next region opponent, East Jackson.  Come out and support the Dragons!
