The Jefferson Dragons faced off last week against cross-town rival and Region 8AAA opponent Jackson County last week. The series started at Jackson County on Tuesday where the Dragons took a 5-0 win and then moved back to Jefferson Friday night for a double-header that was split with game 1 going to Jefferson 6-1 and game 2 going to Jackson County in a close 1-0 battle.
The Dragons took advantage of some miscues from the Panthers in game 1 of the series to score 5 runs. The first run came in the 2nd with a RBI Single from #18 Will Breese (1-for-3 RBI). #8 Hunter Thompson (2-for-4 2B RBI) led off the 4th with a Double and later stole home to score. Jefferson took advantage of errors to score 2 in the 5th including #20 Taylor Wilkes (1-for-4 Run), and #10 Joshua Hutch (1-for-4). Jefferson score 1 more in the 6th on a RBI Single from Thompson.
On the mound for Jefferson, #20 Taylor Wilkes pitched another gem. Wilkes recorded 11Ks in 7 complete-game innings, allowing just 2 hits late in the game and 0 runs.
On Friday night, the Dragons took game 1 of the double-header, 6-2. The first runs did not come until the 4th when Jefferson scored 4. With 2 on, #5 Chaz Evans (1-for-1 RBI Run) drove a RBI Single. #20 Taylor Wilkes (2-for-3 RBI Run) followed right after with a RBI Single. #10 Joshua Hutch (0-for-3 RBI) drove another run with a RBI Fielders Choice. #Will Breese (2-for-3 2-2B RBI) also scored after reaching on a Double. 2 more runs crossed in the 5th with back-to-back RBIs from Breese with a RBI Double and a RBI ground-out for #2 Jacob Richards (0-for-2 RBI).
On the mound, #14 Asher Standridge took the hill. Standridge tossed a gem with 7 complete-game innings, recording 8 Ks and allowing just 1 run on 4 hits, securing the win for Jefferson.
For the final game of the series, it turned into a defensive battle. The Dragons remained scoreless through the game as the Dragons left 6 stranded unable to get them home.
On the mound, #10 Joshua Hutch got the start. Hutch tossed 4 1/3 innings, recording 5 Ks and allowing 1 run in the 2nd inning and just 3 hits. #7 Patrick Hickox came on in relief, pitching 2 1/3 innings with 1 K and allowing 0 runs on 1 hit.
Following this series, the Jefferson Dragons stand at 15-6 (11-4 8AAA) and move into 1st place in Region 8AAA.
The Dragons will face Riverside on Tuesday night for Senior Night in non-region play and will face off against 2nd place Elbert County next week in the final region series of the season in a battle for the Region 8AAA Title

JV Game 13 - Jefferson (7) @ Athens Christian (3)
The Jefferson Dragons JV team traveled to Athens Christian on Monday April 4 to face-off against the Eagles. In game that stayed close through most of the contest, Jefferson pulled ahead to take a 7-3 win over Athens Christian. Down by 2, Jefferson's first 2 runs came in the 2nd inning. With 2 on, #15 Ryan Godfrey (2-for-3 2RBI) drove a 2 RBI Single to tie the game at 2. The Dragons scored another in the 5th when #5 Sammy Elegreet (1-for-3 RBI) drove a RBI Single scoring Godfrey who reached on a Single, giving Jefferson a 3-2 lead. Another scored in the 6th off a RBI Fielders Choice for #24 Carter Evans (0-for-3 RBI). 3 more cross in the 7th to give the Dragons a 7-3 lead including a RBI Fielders Choice from #19 Logan Garner (0-for-1 RBI) who later scored and a RBI Single for #7 Clayton Jones (1-for-2 RBI).
On the hill for Jefferson, #19 Logan Garner got the start. Garner tossed 4 innings, recording 3 Ks and allowing 2 runs on 1 hit. #8 Brandon Trefren came on in relief, pitching 2 innings with 4 Ks recording and allowing 0 runs and 0 hits. #22 Will Wood closed out the game for Jefferson with 1 inning pitched, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and recording 2 straight Ks to close out the win for Jefferson.
Following this game the Dragons stand at 10-2-1. They will travel to Elbert County on Monday, April 11 for their final game of the season.

Dragons Drop 2 of 3 to Hart County in Region 8AAA Series
The Jefferson Dragons faced off against Region 8AAA opponent, the Hart County Bulldogs in a 3 game series on March 29 and April 1. The series started at home on Tuesday where Jefferson took at 7-0 win and then ended on Friday with a double-header that saw the Dragons drop both games by scores of 2-3 and 2-6.
In game 1, Jefferson jumped on the board early and were able to cruise to a shut-out victory. 2 runs crossed in the 1st inning when #12 Zack Boobas (2-for-4 3RBI) drove a 2 RBI Single scoring #20 Taylor Wilkes (1-for-2 2Runs), who led-off with a Single and #8 Hunter Thompson (0-for-3 BB Run), who followed with a walk. Moving to the 2nd, 4 more runs scored on 3 straight RBI hits including a 2RBI Single for #10 Joshua Hutch (1-for-2 2RBI), another RBI Single for Boobas, and a RBI Single for #6 Kasan Rainey (2-for-4 2B RBI). The Dragons scored their 7th run in the 4th, when Rainey drove a Double and later scored on a a RBI Single from #18 Will Breese (1-for-3 RBI).

On the mound for Jefferson #10 Joshua Hutch got the start. Hutch pitched 2 innings, recording 1 K and allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 1 hit. Hickox came on in relief, tossing 4 innings, recording 2 Ks and keeping the Bulldogs hit-less and scoreless through the rest of the game.

JV Game 12 - Banks County (5) @ Jefferson (14)
On Thursday, March 31, the Jefferson Dragons JV team hosted the Leopards of Banks County. In a game that stayed close until the 4th inning, Dragons, pulled ahead to take a 14-5 win over Banks County. Jefferson jumped on the board quickly in the 1st inning with 2 runs crossing including a Sacrifice Fly for an RBI from #7 Clayton Jones (2-for-3 RB 2-2B SacFly RBI) and then a productive RBI ground-out for #18 Vinny Farley (0-for-4 RBI). Another run crossed in the 2nd on another productive ground-out for #4 Hart Blackstock (0-for-2 RBI) scored #24 Carter Evans (1-for-1 3B) who led-off the inning with a Triple. Moving into the 4th tied at 3, the game began to open up for Jefferson as 5 runs crossed. #11 Brandon Clinton (3-for-4 2B RBI) got thing rolling with a lead-of Double. Two batters later, #15 Ryan Godfrey (2-for-4 2B 3B 2RBI) drove a 2 RBI Triple. #3 Garrett Catanach (0-for-3 BB) drove in another run on a RBI grounder to 3rd and a couple batters later, #6 Billy Finch (2-for-3 2B RBI) drove a RBI Double. 3 more crossed in the 5th including a RBI ground-out from Godfrey and then #19 Logan Garner (2-for-2 3 RBI) followed with a 2 RBI hit. In the 6th, with 2 on again following a Single from Clinton and a Walk from Evans, Godfrey drove a 2 RBI Double and Garner followed him with a RBI Single give Jefferson a 14-5 Lead.

Jefferson Dragons Sweep East Jackson in Region Series
The Jefferson Dragons faced their 3rd Region 8AAA opponent last week as they faced the East Jackson Eagles. Jefferson dominated this series as they outscored East Jackson 34-2 for the series, with the Eagles plating their only two runs in the final game of the series. Game 1, played at home, kicked things off right for the Dragons. Right out of the gate, Jefferson plated 4 runs in the 1st. This included a 2 RBI Triple by #10 Joshua Hutch (1-for-3 3B 2RBI) , followed by a RBI Double by #12 Zack Boobas (1-for-3 2B RBI), and a RBI Double by #8 Hunter Thompson (1-for-2 2B RBI). #20 Taylor Wilkes (3-for-3 HR RBI 3Runs) added another run in the 2nd with a solo Home Run. 2 more runs scored in the 4th from a RBI Single by #18 Will Breese (3-for-4 2RBI) and then a RBI Fielders Choice for Hutch. Jefferson closed out the game in the 5th with 3 more runs, inluding a 2 RBI Single from #17 Caleb Chandler (1-for-3 2RBI) and then with bases loaded Breese drives a RBI Single to close out the game and secure the run run win.
On the mound for Jefferson, #20 Taylor Wilkes got the start. Wilkes pitched 5 complete innings and recorded 9 Ks, allowing just 1 hit to secure the win.
Moving to Friday night at East Jackson, Jefferson kept them rolling as they cruise to two wins by scores of 8-0 and 16-2. Jefferson rolled with big offense through both games including a 3 run homer by #10 Joshua Hutch in game 2. #14 Asher Standridge got the win for game 1 shutting out the Eagles and then Hutch got the start for game 2, with 2 runs scoring in the first, but then Eagles stayed off the board the rest of the way for the 16-2 win..

JV Game 11 - Jefferson (18) @ East Jackson (4)
On Wednesday, March 23, the Jefferson Dragons JV team traveled across the county to face the Eagles of East Jackson. The Dragons took control of this game right out of the gate in route to an 18-4 win over the Eagles. Jefferson got things rolling in the 1st, scoring 5 runs. With two on, #11 Brandon Clinton (2-for-5 2RBI 2B) split the hole between short and 3rd for a 2RBI Single. #8 Brandon Trefren (2-for-3 2RBI 2B) followed with another 2 RBI single, and then #19 Logan Garner (2-for-5 RBI) drove a RBI Single. With a 5-1 lead, the Dragons added 3 more runs in the 2nd including a RBI Sacrifice Fly for #7 Clayton Jones (1-for-3 3RBI SacF), and a RBI Single by #18 Vinny Farley (2-for-3 4RBI). Jefferson took advantage of some fielding errors in the 4th to add 2 more runs and then in the 5th 3 more runs crossed including a 2 RBI Single by Jones. With a 13-4 lead going into the 7th, Jefferson jumped further ahead with some big hits scoring 5 more runs. #5 Sammy Elegreet (2-for-5) reached on Single to get things going. With 2 on, Farley drove a 2 RBI Single. Clinton then followed with a Double and then #15 Ryan Godfrey (1-for-4 2RBI 2B) followed right after with a 2 RBI Double. Godfrey later scored giving the Dragons an 18-4 lead, which they held for the win.
On the mound for Jefferson, #9 Sam Wells got the start. Wells recorded 3 innings of work on the hill, with 1 K and allowing 4 runs (1 earned run) on 4 hits. #13 Khalil Bailey came on in relief. Bailey recorded 1 1/3 innings of work with 1 K and allowing 0 runs and 0 hits. #16 Allen Bryan came on to close the game. In 2 2/3 innings of work, Bryan recorded 5 Ks and allowed 0 runs on 2 hits.
Following this win, the Dragons stand at a record of 8-2-1. They have 3 games remaining for the 2016 season including their final home game with Banks County on Thursday (whether permitting) and then on the road the next two Mondays against Athens Christian and Elbert County.

JV Game 10 - Oconee (4) @ Jefferson (15)
On Monday March, 21, the Jefferson Dragons JV team hosted the Oconee County Warriors. Helped by some big offensive support, the Dragons were able to take a 15-4 win over the Warriors in 6 innings. Jefferson first jumped on the board in the 2nd inning following a RBI Bunt Single by #6 Billy Finch (2-for-3 2RBI) that drove in #12 Terrell Wall (1-for-4 RBI). The game began to open up in the 3rd inning with 5 runs crossing. With bases loaded, #11 Brandon Clinton (1-for-2 2RBI BB) drove a 2 RBI Single, followed by a productive RBI ground-out for #8 Brandon Trefren (0-for-2 RBI), a RBI infield Single by Wall and a RBI Single by Finch, putting Jefferson up 6-2. 2 more runs crossed in the 4th including a RBI Double by #24 Carter Evans (1-for-1 2B RBI). 3 more scored in the 5th including a 2 RBI Triple by #7 Clayton Jones (3-for-4 2-3B 2RBI) and a RBI Single by #18 Vinny Farley (2-for-3 RBI). Up 11-4 going to the bottom of the 6th, the Dragons plated 4 more runs to secure the win.
