Jefferson Tops Red Elephants in Tight Contest

The Jefferson Dragons hit the road once more on Saturday to Gainesville, to face the Red Elephants.  In tight contest with the AAAAA state runner-ups, the Dragons came out on top, defeating Gainesville, 4-3.  Jefferson was kept off the board the until the 3rd inning.  In the 3rd, #12 Zack Boobs (1-for-4 Run) drove a single to left, followed by #8 Hunter Thompson (1-for-3 Run) reaching on a walk.  #6 Kasan Rainey (2-for-4 2RBI 2B) then drove a ball to deep right for a double to score both Boobas and Thompson, giving Jefferson a 2-1 lead.  Jefferson's next two runs came in the 6th.  That's when #16 Devin Humphries (1-for-3 Run) who later scored when #22 Lane Watkins (1-for-1 RBI Run 2B) drove a RBI double to left.  Watkins then scored on a RBI ground-out by #4 Justin Cole (0-for-3 RBI) securing the lead for the Dragons.

On the mound, #14 Asher Standridge got the start.  Standridge pitched 4 1/3 innings of work, allowing 2 runs (1 earned run) on 4 hits and recording 4 Ks. #24 Brooks Beddow came on in relief.  Beddoe pitched 1 inning, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and recording 1 K.  #12 Zack Boobas, came on to close out the game.  Boobas pitched 1 2/3 innings of work recording 2 Ks allowing 0 hits and 0 runs to secure the win for the Dragson.

Following this big win, the Dragon now stand at 3-2 (0-0) on the season.  This week, they will host White County on Tuesday, and then travel up to White County on Friday.  Come out and support your Dragons!

Dragons Fall To Dawson County in Shortened Game

The Jefferson Dragons hit the road on Friday evening to Tigers of Dawson County.  In a game that was cut short in the top of the 5th due to a bank of lights going dark, the Dragons, despite comeback efforts fell to Dawson County 4-3.  Down 1-0, the Dragons jumped on the board in the 2nd inning following a lead-off double by #12 Zack Boobas (2-for-2 1), leading to a run on a RBI Single by #8 Hunter Thompson (1-for-1 RBI).  Jefferson scored another in the 3rd inning, following a lead-off single by #22 Lane Watkins (2-for-2 2Runs), who scored on an RBI Single to right by #20 Taylor Wilkes (2-for-3 2RBI).  Following another single by Watkins in the 5th, Wilkes drove another RBI single up the middle to score the run.  Two batters later, the lights in right field went dark, causing the game to called.
On the mound for the Dragons, #20 Taylor Wilkes got the start.  Wilkes with an off day, pitched 1 2/3 innings, recording 4Ks, but allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 4 BBs.  #7 Patrck Hickox came on in relief in the 2nd.  in 2 1/3 innings of work, Hickox allowed 0 runs on just 2 hits, and recorded 4Ks, keeping the Tigers quite the rest of the way.

Following this game, the Dragons stand at 2-2 (0-0 Region 8AAA).


Dragons Take 7-0 Shutout Win in Home Opener

The Jefferson Dragons played in their home opener on Thursday evening as they hosted the Athens Christian Eagles.  In a game that plated 5 runs in the 2nd for the Dragons and dominated by pitching, the Dragons shutout the eagles by a score of 7-0 to take their second win of the season.  Jefferson jumped on the board in the first after #20 Taylor Wilkes (2-for-4 RBI 2Runs 2B) reached with a lead off single and then after reaching 3rd, scored on a RBI double by #12 Zack Boobas (2-for-3 Run RBI 2B) giving the Dragons and early 1-0 lead.  The game busted open in the 2nd as the Dragons batted through lineup, scoring 5 more runs.  #16 Devin Humphries (1-for-3 Run) and #22 Lane Watkins (2-for-3 Run) led off with back to back hits, followed by a 2 RBI infield hit by #15 Zac Corbin (2-for-3 3 RBI Run) scoring Humphries and Watkins.  Corbin then scored on an RBI double by Wilkes who later scored on an RBI ground out to first by #10 Joshua Hutch (2-for-3 RBI).  Boobas then reached o his second hit of the game and later scored following a RBI double by #6 Kasan Rainey (1-for-3 RBI 2B).  The Dragons took a 6-0 lead to the 5th when one more run scored after #8 Hunter Thompson (1-for-3 Run) led off with a single and later scored when Corbin drove a double to down the left field line.

On the mound for the Dragons, #10 Joshua Hutch got the start.  Hutch recorded 5 innings of work, allowing 0 runs and just 1 hit while recording 10 Ks and 4 BBs.  #11 Jared Hulsey came on in relief in the 6th and facing the minimum and recording 1 K in an inning of work.  #12 Zack Boobas closed out the game in the 7th, allowing 0 runs and just 1 hit and recording 2 Ks to secure the win for Jefferson.

Dragons Split Games 1 and 2 to Kickoff 2016 Season

The Jefferson Dragons traveled to Athens Christian on Saturday 2/20 for two games to kick off their 2016 campaign against Tattnall Square out of Macon for game 1 and Athens Christian for game 2.  At the end of the day, the Dragons split the non-region games falling 3-2 to Tattnall Sqaure and then taking game 2 against Athens Christian 12-1.

Game 1 verses the Trojans of Tattnall Square was a tight battle from the start.  Jefferson gave up 1 run in the 1st inning off an RBI single and the score remained 1-0 until 5th with the Dragons managing just 1 hit through the first 4 innings .  In the top of the 5th however, the Dragons jumped on the board.  #22 Lane Watkins (0-for-2 BB Run) reached base on a lead off walk.  After reaching 2nd on a wild pitch, #18 Will Breese (2-for-4 2RBI) drove an RBI single to left to score Watkins to tie the game a 1 a piece.  The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the 6th off an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the 7th, Will Breese drove in his 2nd RBI on single up the middle scoring #15 Zac Corbin (1-for-2 BB) to tie the game after Corbin led the inning off with walk and reached 2nd off a Sacrifice Bunt by #20 Taylor Wilkes (0-for-2 SacB).  The Trojans took the win, however, in the bottom of the 7th off an RBI single to take the game 3-2.

On the mound for the Dragons Taylor Wilkes got the start.  Wilkes recorded 9 Ks and 0 BBs with 3 hits allowed and 1 run scoring in 4 innings of work.  #7 Patrick Hickox came on in relief in the 5th.  In 2 2/3 innings of work to close out the game, Hickox recorded 3 Ks and 0 BBs with 2 runs crossing on 7 hits.

For game 2, the Dragons came out strong against the Eagles of Athens Christian, keeping the Eagles off the board until the 5th to record a 12-1 win in 5 innings.  The Dragons scored in every inning starting off in the 1st after Will Breese (0-for-3 2Runs) reached based on a fielders choice and later scored on a RBI single to right from #12 Zac Boobas (3-for-3 2RBI 2Doubles 2Runs).  In the 2nd, #16 Devin Humphries (1-for-2 Run BB) reached on a lead off walk.  Lane Watkins (1-for-2 2RBI Run) then reached on a single.  Humphries scored following a Sac Bunt from #6 Kasan Rainey (2-for-2 2RBI 2B Run SacB) and then Watkins scored on a pass ball.  In the 3rd, Boobas led off with a double, later scoring on an error at 3rd. #17 Caleb Chandler (0-for-3 SacFly RBI Run) reached on a fielders choice  and later stole home to score.  Watkins also reached on fielders choice and scored on a RBI single from Rainey.  In the 4th, Breese reached again off an error at 2nd and the scored after an RBI double from Boobas.  Boobas then scored after Chandler drove a Sac Fly to left.  Into the 5th inning, Dragons drove across 4 more runs.  Watkins led off getting hit by a pitch and reached 3rd on a double by Rainey.  Watkins scored on a error when #19 Josh Cole (0-for-2 BB Run) reached.  Rainey and Cole scored later scored on an RBI double by #3 Ethan Page (1-for-1 2RBI 2B) and #2 Jared Richards (BB Run) scored later after reaching on walk.

On the mound for the Dragons, #14 Asher Standridge started things off.  Standridge recorded 4 Ks and 1 BB, allowing just 1 hit and 0 runs in 4 innings of work.  #24 Brooks Beddow came on in the 5th to close things out.  Beddow recorded 1 K and 1 BB with 1 run crossing in an inning of work.

The Dragons start the season off with 1-1 (0-0 Region 8AAA) record for the 2016 season.  Come out and support your Dragons as they make another run for the playoffs.

JV Game 1 - Prince Avenue (4) @ Jefferson (10)

The Jefferson Dragons JV squad got the 2016 season rolling on Thursday evening when they played host to the Wolverines of Prince Avenue.  In a game that was held tight through the first 3 innings, the Dragons opened things up in the 4th inning in route to a 10-4 victory in their season opener.  The first run of the game for the Dragons came in the 2nd inning with a bases loaded hit batsmen.  In the 4th inning, the game opened up.  #19 Logan Garner (1-for-3) led things off with a single.  #2 Billy Guthrie came in as a courtesy runner and then scored on a RBI single by #11 Brandon Clinton (1-for-4 RBI).  Following a couple hit batsmen and #3 Garrett Catanach scoring on a passed ball, #20 Justin Cole (3-for-4 RBI) drove in an RBI single and then later scored another run on a passed ball.  #12 Terrell Wall (1-for-4 2B RBI) drove another run on a RBI Double giving the Dragons a 6-0 lead.  The Dragons tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th inning when #2 Billy Gurthrie (1-for-1 2B 2RBI) drove a 2RBI double down the left field line and 2 more runs in the 6th including a RBI single by #3 Garrett Catanach (1-for-1 RBI)

On the mound, #10 Brandon Trefren got the start.  Trefren held the Wolverines scoreless through 3 innings, recording 3 Ks, 2 BBs, and allowing just 1 hit.  #19 Logan Garner came in relief in the 4th.  Garner allowed just 2 runs, while recording 4 Ks, and 0 hits in 2 innings of work.  #22 Will Wood came on the 6th recording 2 Ks and allowing 0 runs.  #18 Vinny Farley closed out the game in the 7th for the Dragons recording 2 Ks and allowing 2 runs, including one off an infield RBI single.

The Dragons start their season strong standing with a 1-0 record. This coming week they will host the Apalachee Wildcats on Tuesday and the travel to Madison County to face the Red Raiders on Wednesday.  Come out and support your Dragons!
